17 November 2014
Our recent Hallowe’en Day was thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils and staff. As you know we use Hallowe’en as an opportunity for fundraising. The money raised goes towards the ‘Monday’ activities – i.e. Drama (Keelin), Gymnastics (Carol Anne) and up to last year Hip Hop. This year the ‘Spellathon’ raised €2806.25. On behalf of the staff and Board of Management I want to say a big ‘Thank You’ and ‘Well Done’ to all those families who contributed so generously.
♦ Parent/Teacher meetings are being held this week.
♦ A large number of Christmas Shoeboxes were collected after mid-term break. These will bring happiness and joy to children at Christmas who, otherwise, might have had very little else to look forward to. Well done to all who donated a box.
♦ Music Generation Classes are being enjoyed very much by each group. 5th & 6th class are delighted to be asked to perform some of their songs at the forthcoming Mount Wolseley Concert. This concert is being organised by Mount Wolseley Singers and takes place on Sunday November 30th in Mount Wolseley at 7.30p.m.
♦ School Christmas Concert
We will hold a School Christmas Concert on Tuesday December 16th. This will involve all classes and will showcase some of the work of the Music Generation classes. This concert will take place in the Parish Church at 11.00a.m. Instead of an admission charge all I ask is that each parent has paid at least the first instalment (€15) of the cost per child of the Music Generation classes.
Also, the same week, on Thursday 18th, the whole school will attend the 9.30a.m. mass in the Parish Church. This will be our Christmas Mass. Hopefully, many parents/relations will be in a position to celebrate Mass with us. A reminder will be sent nearer the time.
♦ Parents Association
An active Parents Association is an integral part of any school. I would hope that a representative number of Parents will be able to attend the next Parents Association meeting which will be held in the Tara Arms on Tuesday December 2nd at 8.00p.m. A written reminder will be sent beforehand.
♦ The Parents Association of Tullow Community School has organised John Lonergan to speak in the Community School on Tuesday November 25th at 8.00p.m. The topic is “Parenting – The Challenges and Rewards”.
♦ Christmas Holidays: School will finish at 12 noon on Friday 19th Dec. and will reopen on Monday 5th January 2015. (Standardised Holidays)
