10 March 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This week we are celebrating “Seachtain na Gaeilge”. The girls are trying hard to “labhair as gaeilge” (speak in irish). This might be an opportunity for you to practise any “cúpla focal”(couple of irish words) you might have with your daughter

Next Tuesday, March 15th, is Proclamation Day for all Primary Schools.  The pupils have done lots of work on the subject of 1916.  3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th classes wrote class proclamations for a modern Ireland.  Parts of these make up our “School Proclamation 2016”.  As well as writing proclamations some pupils have been researching their family tree; others have discovered the origins of the tricolour (our National Flag).  3rd class have a project on Thomas Traynor.

On Tuesday next  we will raise the Tricolor which was presented to us by members of the Defence Forces last September.

Some of the work that the children have done will be on display around the school. You are welcome to come and view this on Wednesday next from 11.30 – 12.00 noon. (Day of the holidays.)

Our Lenten campaign is going well. This year we are supporting the charities “Bóthar” and Trocaire. The children have coloured “Bees for Bothar”  Tomorrow, March 11th we will have a no-uniform day. We ask each child to donate some pocket money to our Lenten campaign.  All the money collected will go towards Trocaire’s work in the Third World and also we will be sending bees to Africa. We will let you know after Easter the final amount collected.

Reminder: Easter Holidays – School will finish at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 16th and reopen on Monday 4th April.
