Scoil Mhuire Lourdes

♦ On behalf of the Board of Management I am happy to inform you that the school has been granted an extra teacher on a provisional basis. This appointment will see reduced pupil numbers in the lower classes. We have been granted the teacher due to the high number of new enrolments for the coming school year both in Junior Infants and in other classes throughout the school.
Our projected total number of pupils for September is 246 – this is the number required for the extra teacher. However, the Department of Education will withdraw the ‘extra’ teacher if our number of pupils falls below 246 before September 30th. We don’t really want to consider that option so it is very important that all pupils currently on roll with us remain with us for the coming school year (not including 6th class, of course). If for any reason your child may not be returning to this school after the summer holidays I ask you to please let me know as soon as possible. On the other hand if you know of any family coming to Tullow over the next few months who may have a girl eligible for Primary school please ask parent/guardian to contact me as I may be able to accept her depending on the class for which she is seeking a place.
♦ It is with great reluctance that the Board of Management has accepted Mrs. Cullen’s retirement letter. Mrs. Cullen has been in this school for her full teaching career. She has taught all class levels over the years. She will be sorely missed by pupils, staff, parents and Board of Management. We say a huge “Míle Buíochas” to Frances for her work and dedication throughout her time here. All partners wish her a long and happy retirement.

♦ Bookbills: Bookbills will be given out over the next few days. If you wish to order your books through the school you must pay before the holidays. Otherwise you will have to purchase books yourself during the holidays. The difference between availing of the school rental scheme and buying the books yourself can be great especially in the older classes.
Please note: All pupils must pay the school section of the bill, even if buying the books themselves.
♦ School reports will be given out next week. Please take time to read the report and take note of recommendations/comments by the teacher. Your daughter’s teacher has worked with your child for the past year and has put a lot of time/effort into each report.
♦ Active School Week
Next week is our Active Schools week and we will be getting moving – tennis coaching, soccer, walk-a-mile, skipathon, GAA, dance marathon and a Summer Olympics!
The girls can wear their school P.E. gear or plain navy shorts all week and they will be getting ‘P.E. homework’. We hope this will help encourage them to value and enjoy exercise and keep active for life.
