Scoil Mhuire Lourdes
26 January 2015
♦ Applications for enrolment are taking place at the moment. Forms are available from Fiona. Closing date is February 13th.
♦ Catholic Schools Week 2015
This week is Catholic School Week. We will have various activities going on in the classes – you might like to chat to your daughter about these. Part of the Week’s celebration is Grandparents Day – Wednesday, January 28th. We will conclude the week by attending mass on Friday January 30th. This will also mark our celebration of St. Brigid’s Day – Sunday February 1st. All classes will attend the 9.30a.m. mass on Friday so please ensure your daughter is in school on time.
♦ It has been brought to the attention of the Board of Management that some parents/guardians are not exercising care when dropping off their children in the mornings. Please ensure that you park properly (not on zig-zag lines or in bus space) and that your daughter gets out of the car on the correct side – not into the path of oncoming traffic.
♦ Sr. Thomasina of the Brigidine Convent has asked that you respect the privacy of the Sisters by not walking/driving through the convent grounds to get to the school. This is private property.
♦ Music Generation is proving to be a great success. However, the second payment is now due. I would appreciate prompt payment of the second €15.
♦ Book Bills: If any parent wishes to start paying towards next year’s book bill, please go to Fiona.
♦ There is much in the news recently re. childhood obesity, unhealthy diets etc. Thankfully, the children in this school by and large, are given healthy lunches by you, the parents. I encourage you to keep up that good work to ensure your daughters grow up to be healthy adults.
♦ Carolanne is here for 10 Mondays to teach gymnastics to all classes. This is a great opportunity for all pupils to learn new skills. Payment for these classes comes from our fundraising. Please ensure your daughter wears her P.E. clothes each Monday.
♦ Last year we held a Book Fair in conjunction with Khan’s Bookshop in Kilkenny which was very successful. This year we will have another on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th February. Many books will be available at just €1.00. This is a great opportunity for you and your daughter to buy books at great value.
The children will be brought in their classes to look at the books on Thursday. Parents are welcome to drop in and browse/buy at any time during the 2 days. The children will have an opportunity to buy books on Friday.
A percentage of the total sales is given as a book voucher to the school. This means that the more books bought the more books, in turn, will be added to our library for use by the pupils.
♦ February Midterm: School will be closed Thursday 19th and Friday 20th.
