Dear Parents/Guardians,

Lenten Campaign

During Lent this year the girls collected an amazing €550, to be shared between two Third World Charities.  Trócaire will receive €300 towards their Third World Lenten Campaign.  The remaining €250 will go to Bóthar to buy bees, rabbits and guinea fowl for African families.

These contributions will make a big difference to the people in need.  A big “thank you” to the girls and to you for your support.

Easter Chicks

We have recently been presented with a cheque for €650 from the ‘Easter Chick’ sale.  This is a wonderful amount.  A sincere thank you to Mary Rooney and Susan Brennan for all their hard work in knitting the chicks, buying the eggs etc.  This money will be used to purchase extra resources in classrooms.

Student Absence

The number of girls with a high rate of absence is increasing every year.  When a pupil is absent for 20 days or more, I am obliged to report this to Tusla – the Child and Family Agency.  In recent years, parents have begun to withdraw children from school well in advance of school closing for summer holidays.  This is not acceptable.  If you intend taking your child out of school for any period of time this must be stated in advance in writing.  Each day that your child is not in school is a lost opportunity for her.

Testing

Standardised Testing in maths and literacy will take place in all classes from 1st – 6th during the weeks May 9th – 20th.  It is extremely important that your child is in school during this time.  If your daughter is absent when the tests are administered to her class there is no guarantee that she will be able to sit the test at a later stage.

Congratulations to 6th class who received Confirmation last Saturday.

Best wishes to 2nd class who will receive First Communion on May 7th.

 Headlice
Again, headlice are posing a problem.  I ask each one of you to please check your daughter’s hair and treat her immediately if infected.  Also, your child’s hair must be ties up/back at all times.

Book Bills

Like last year books for the coming year will be ordered only for those who have paid in advance.  I would urge you to consider paying in instalments between now and the holidays if you think you won’t be able to pay the full amount when the bills are given out in June.

Food Dudes

We are once again, participating in the Food Dudes Healthy Eating Programme, which aims to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables.  Please see accompanying ‘Food Dudes’ letter for full details.  We will be starting on Thursday.  Your child will automatically be included in this programme.  However, if for any reason you do not want your child to take part (e.g. if they are allergic to a certain type of fruit or vegetables), we would be grateful if you could inform the school.
