January 2014

Scoil Mhuire Lourdes

Tullow, Co.Carlow

21 January 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Applications for enrolment are taking place at the moment.  Forms are available from Fiona.  Closing date is February 14th.

February Midterm: School will be closed for the week

17th – 21st February (Standardised Holidays).

Again, many parents have complained re. headlice.  Please check your daughter’s hair on a regular basis and treat immediately if affected.

Also, many pupils are coming to school without hair being tied up/back.  Please ensure this is done.

Book Bills:  If any parent wishes to start paying towards next year’s book bill, please go to Fiona.

Uniform: Please ensure your daughter wears proper uniform –

green pinafore or grey trousers

white blouse/polo shirt

green cardigan/jumper

tights must be white green or black

socks must be either white or green

P.E. uniform (navy bottoms with school sweatshirt) is to be worn on P.E. days only

* Pupils name must be on all belongings.

While the majority of pupils are in school on time, there are a number who are latecomers.  I ask parents of those children who are regularly late to please consider the consequences –

  1. Your daughter may be upset      because she is late
  2. It causes disruption to the      class
  3. She may have missed an      important part of the lesson.

All pupils are expected to be on the premises at 9.20a.m.

If for some reason you have to visit the school and have a buggy with you please leave the buggy outside.  Prams, buggies etc. take up quite an amount of space on the narrow corridor and may be the cause of an accident.

Again, Jane has asked that you do not park on zig-zag lines near the gate or in the space for the bus.  Often, the bus has nowhere to pull in to let off the pupils in the morning or, indeed, pick them up in the evening.

There is much in the news recently re. childhood obesity, unhealthy diets etc.  Thankfully, the children in this school by and large, are given healthy lunches by you, the parents.  I encourage you to keep up that good work to ensure your daughters grow up to be healthy adults.

Carolanne is here for 10 Mondays to teach gymnastics to all classes.  This is a great opportunity for all pupils to learn new skills.  Payment for these classes comes from our fundraising.  Please ensure your daughter wears her P.E. clothes each Monday.

St. Brigid’s Day is Saturday February 1st.  As we will not be in school that day we will celebrate the day on Friday January 31st.  All classes will go to Mass at 9.30a.m. so please ensure your daughter is in school on time.

Angela Haskins (caretaker/cleaner) retired at Christmas from the staff.  We wish Angela well in her retirement.
