This year we are striving to be awarded an Active School Flag. As part of this process we have to come up with ways to improve PE, energise the school day and get more physically active in the community.
We have begun this by developing our PE planning and ensuring all areas of the PE curriculum are implemented. We ‘got active’ during class with ‘Go Noodle’ brain breaks full of dance, fun activities and yoga. In the mornings we’ve had great fun attempting the ‘walk a mile’ challenge and the ‘Wake Up Shake Up’ dance routines! At break time the children are given an opportunity to play freely with PE equipment thanks to the 3rd class PE monitors who leave out and tidy up each day. We also have John Kenny putting the classes through their paces with ‘bootcamp’ style sessions on Fridays. For home work all classes have taken on the Laya healthcare ‘Super Troopers’ programme that gives 5/10 min activities for homework.
In June we will be having an Active School Week full of movement and enjoyment – more information closer to the date!
How you can help.
Children do what we do, not what we say so we can help them get the recommended 60 mins of physical activity each day by getting involved with some of their activities if possible. Come on let’s get moving 🙂
